Carry Me

When I wrote this song a couple years ago, I found myself asking if I could really trust fall into absolute dependence on the Lord. I’d been a Christian for almost 20 years, but had only just met Him. He had never been my anchor; I’d only known how to float. Float from one thing I placed my hope in to the next. I was extremely disillusioned because I’d placed my hope in everything but Him—and all else, including things “about” and “for” Him, disappoint.

Since melodically posing that question, what I have found is this: the answer is an eternal resounding YES.

He will carry you.

He carried you at Calvary in the form of a Cross; He continues to carry you today in the form of sovereignly orchestrated situations and relationships and blessings and hardships that are designed both to romance and purify you.

He carries you in and through all of it, always eagerly anticipating the moment you glance up, catch His eye, and finally yield into the blissful, surrendered rest of,

“Oh,

You love me beyond my capacity to comprehend,

And you are unchanging.

You have carried me this far,

and you will continue to carry me until we arrive on Eternity’s shore.

And only I can decide whether that will be a terror, a burden, or an absolute joy.”

“And now we have run into his heart to hide ourselves in His faithfulness. This is where we find His strength and comfort, for He empowers us to seize what has already been established ahead of time—an unshakeable hope! We have this certain hope like a strong, unbreakable anchor holding our souls to God Himself.” | Hebrews 6:18-19
